CAM Quilt Show

The Cincinnati Art Museum is currently running an exhibit titled Masterpiece Quilts from the Shelburne Museum. Even if quilts remind you of grandmother's living room, this show is innovative strictly because it reminds us that the line between "art" and "craft" is slowly dissolving. Although the works displayed are hardly contemporary, they can be analyzed using several contemporary ideologies. The first is the aforementioned contemporary principal of diminishing the line between "fine art" and "craft." This is part and parcel to the feminist art movement. Traditionally feminine hobbies, such as quilting and needlework, are now being displayed in art museums along with requisite oils and sculptures.
